| The
table is the large flat facet on the
crown or top of a diamond. The table
directly affects scintillation, or sparkle
in a diamond. The combination of table
size and crown angle governs the balance
between brilliance, flashes of white
light returning to the eye from within
the diamond, and dispersion, the play
of spectral colors seen by the eye created
by refracted light as it prisms through
a diamonds facets. |

GIA
has not established ideal table measurement
percentages for marquise diamonds,
but marquise cut diamonds with table percentages
that measure below 62 percent or less deliver
exceptional brilliance. Marquise diamonds
within this range are usually preferred
for their better balance of sparkle. Table
measurements that are within these ranges
are considered by Gemologists to have very
fine table proportions. Generally marquise
diamonds have table percentages that are
usually in the 52% to 62% range. Larger
tables are not as common in marquise diamonds
as they are in other cuts.
The brilliance
of your diamond depends on proper cutting.
